ROSA ANSWERS

WCL is short for the Weekly Cost of Living

It’s a letters column about the bills that come every month whether you like them or not: car and home premiums, the power and water bill, internet and phone, and the small household fees nobody explains. A reader writes in with a bill. We read it line by line, in public, and stamp it.

Who answers

Rosa Delgado edits the column and answers most of the mail. Her habit is to quote your letter back to you, find the one line that matters, and end with what to do this week. Hank Brewer writes the letters that need a phone call. When the answer is “call them,” Hank writes out the script: the questions to ask, in order, and what each kind of answer means.

Rosa and Hank are the column’s editorial voices. They are not insurance agents, utility employees or financial professionals, and nothing here is personal advice. When we state a number, we name where it comes from so you can check it. When the number depends on your state or your provider, we say so and show you where to look it up.

About the letters

Letters are composites of common reader questions, edited for length; details changed. We combine questions that arrive in similar shapes, strip anything that could identify a person, and publish the version that helps the most people. A letter here is a question, not a testimonial.

How the site is paid for

WCL is published by WCL Weekly Media. The site and the weekly email may carry advertising and offers from third-party partners, and we may be paid when a reader responds to one. Partner offers are labeled as offers, separate from the letters and answers. See the Privacy Policy for how subscriber information is handled.
